It was a real bonus to work with writer-director Aoife McArdle on James Vincent McMorrow's beautifully crafted 'Red Dust', the first of two promos graded by Mill Colourist James Bamford, for 'Post Tropical', the Irish singer-songwriter's follow-up to his debut album 'Early in The Morning'.
In the wake of the aftermath from events in film 'Cavalier', this brooding video traces the heartache of a young woman in an unsettling story of loss and yearning. An emotive piece all set to a sparse electronic beat and layered with McMorrow's trademark, soulful falsetto tones.
The video marks another chapter in an ambitious trilogy of films written and directed by Aoife for the folk's singer's new album, with her previous work including video's for Simian Mobile Disco, Clock Opera and on John Hopkin's UK Video Music Award winning 'Open Eye Signal'
Mill Colourist James Bamford talks about his experiences working on the promos, "The three films were beautifully shot on location in America by Aoife and Steve Annis, and 'Red Dust' in particular was my favourite, as it features some really striking images. My job here was to enhance the already cinematic feel and stay true to the film itself. A unique and emotional story deserves a grade to match, keeping the scenes foreboding and beautiful. It was a pleasure working with Aoife and the final film is something I'm really proud of."
