Rolls
Following our multi-award winning collaboration on Hovis’ ‘Go on Lad’, we have teamed up once again with the talented folk at MCBD to create a new spot for Hovis called ‘Rolls’.
The 30 second TV advert opens in a busy Victorian marketplace with sepia tones used to re-create the look and feel of photography from the period. The camera follows a young girl as she walks through the crowded street, passing market stalls and traders on her way to the local bakers. There she watches as Hovis rolls are baked golden brown. As the freshly baked bread emerges from the oven, we return to the present day and the girl collects her rolls and skips off down the same street.

Our challenge was to help Director Ivan Bird capture the authenticity of photography from the Victorian ages. Creatively, the spot needed to feel as genuine as possible whilst avoiding clichéd filmic looks. Lead Flame, Pete Rypstra explains how we did it: "The ad was shot on RED cam to capture as much detail as possible. Then to match the photography of the era, various blurs, small scratches, dirt and stain textures were combined and added to Mick Vincent's sepia grade to match the characteristics found in photography of that day."
