"It was one of those great jobs," says Alex Lovejoy, our Lead Flame Artist/VFX Supervisor on the spot. "We were tasked with making a sexy spot even sexier."

'Invincible' appears to live and breathe, thanks in part to slow motion and shallow depth of field. Our Mill team added other nuances that contributed to the spot's anthemic feel. Among the main challenges in post, Lovejoy recounts, matching the heat haze background and doing compositing behind flames and smoke of a car flipping over and exploding.

"To give the illusion the car was flipping over through space, we completely replaced the background and added our own camera move," Lovejoy relates. "We matte painted to create divots in the grass and skid marks on the track. We embellished the scene with 'lots of CG debris-grass, dust and CG smoke."

"We took a ton of photos for references," explains Wyatt Savarese, Lead CG Artist/Massive Artist, who VFX Supervised the 6-day shoot at L.A. Speedway with Lovejoy. "The key things in the photos were the cars and the crowds. The cars especially are very specific to their sponsors. We also shot reference of fighter jets we used to create digitally in the second scene."

In addition to creating background cars and fighter jets in CG in painstaking detail, Savarese and his team had to populate a 110,000 capacity stadium using Massive.

"The Massive Agents also have over 200 different licensed NASCAR T-shirts, hats and sweaters. If you have a favorite NASCAR team, chances are that one of the Massive Agents is sporting their gear."
