Brains Dance
Once again, director Ringan Ledwidge proves his talent for humour, and Mill 3D get all the speed and snap of a real body-popper into a puppet whilst retaining the look, movement and weight of a marionette. The Mill combined live action, puppetry and innovative 3D animation to set the Brains puppet body-popping to a soundtrack of Rhythm is a Dancer by Snap.

A motion capture stage was used with a real dancer to scan the moves for Brains, and a puppet was scanned to provide the best starting point for the model. A third of the scenes were filmed in-camera, with puppeteers' legs, shadows and strings removed later. Each shot was set up in Flame and animation changes implemented to a high degree of detail and complexity.
The advert became one of the most memorable of the year and has gone on to win a host of awards including a BTA Craft Award for Best Post Production, a VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Commercial, an APA Diamond and a BTAA Gold award.
