Together with Deutsch NY and director Bryan Buckley, our team of artists helped to deliver a trailer for a spoof TV show about two former pro football players who have traded their jerseys for police uniforms in order to patrol one of the country's toughest neighborhoods.
One of the tasks The Mill was responsible for was creating the opening titles for the show. Design Director Jeff Stevens, who worked on the sequence says of the project brief, "our job was to make something big and impactful while remaining true to the theme of cop shows on the networks today."
In the design phase, the team explored various levels of "over-the-topness" to find what would work while not giving away the joke: that the Manning brothers were actually taking a new path in their career! The agency provided a logo that already had implied motion, so it worked well as a springboard for the titles.
Since the heroes use footballs instead of guns, the ball became a bullet in the logo and mimicked its behavior in animation. "We also needed to blow something up," Stevens explains. "Glass is cool to look at when it's shattered, so we made the typography out of glass, made the football a silver bullet, and blew it up!"
