This spot follows a man who uses a whip to complete daily tasks such as putting on his dressing gown or taking a carton of orange juice out of the fridge. His whipping skills are all accomplished in a flamboyant and adventurous way, allowing the main character to easily multitask.
Shoot Supervisor and 2D Lead Artist Richard de Carteret explains ‘From the moment we were first asked to help create the illusion that our actor (Dan Cook) had precision bull whip skills, we knew it would fun.
In the majority of shots a CG whip was combined with live action elements to create a reaction. We used a number of practical rigs for the orange carton, newspaper and gown that were later removed and re-timed.
The biggest challenge on the job was the fridge scene because the rig was restricting the feel of the shot too much. After numerous revisions we decided that I had to put on the dressing gown we bought online and re shoot the body to create the move we wanted. A similar technique was used to help the actor put on his gown as he walked out of the bedroom.’
