Director Andrew Proctor of Mill+ partnered with IMAX to create the striking promo for IMAX Transformers: The Last Knight | Filmed on IMAX 3D Cameras’. This spot, quite literally, demonstrates the intertwining relationship between the camera and cinematic world of Transformers.
The piece opens with the IMAX logo shifting into multiple configurations as it develops fully into a 3D camera, launching the viewer into a futuristic world.
Mill+ artists created key design frames to explore what this journey might look like, using animation blocking to map out the intricate transformation. The team utilized 3D files supplied by IMAX to understand the digital geometry of the device, which enabled them to animate the twists and interlocking movements that converge to create the camera. Lead Animator Jan Sladecko says, “We used a library of 3D models, broke them apart and transferred them to a futuristic environment.”
Andrew adds, “IMAX is really pushing camera and screen technology, as well as the presentation of movies to be large format and to be viewed as such. It was great to collaborate with them on this project.”
