The Mill’s VFX and Design team set out to emphasize the breezy, carefree nature of dogdays complete with shandy and lakeside diving. The creation of the greatest cannonball of all time required impressive skills from the 2D team, who composited several depth charge splash elements together to create the explosive result.

Shot entirely in New Zealand, the distinct environmental elements that were present (such as rich, green mountains) combined with cloudy weather posed a challenge for the artists in post. The Mill’s 2D artist Jale Parsons comments, “We utilized tools in Autodesk Flame suite to augment the mountain ranges, essentially re-creating an entirely new environment that reflects Wisconsin’s lakeside signature landscape.”
