Jason Statham and Gal Gadot are back again Wix’s campaign for Super Bowl LI, created in collaboration with Hone, Director Louis Leterrier of Bullitt Branded and The Mill.
This time, the duo generously present even more hurdles for Chef Felix’s ‘Food Truck’ dream – a dream that became clear to him after they swiftly crossed ‘Restaurant’ off the list.
With effects present in every shot, clear communication between Shoot Supervisors Tara DeMarco and John Leonti was essential on set. While an essential element of any shoot, it’s especially key when dealing with nonexistent backgrounds, very real stunts (a full-sized food truck making an eight-foot jump in midair, for example) and, of course, the unexpected weather patterns of beautiful Barcelona.
Tara explains, “Our main responsibility was to constantly communicate camera angles, moves and lenses to ensure the unit getting the plates captured what the main unit needed for backgrounds. Half the spot was shot on green screen. It was important for us to be on the same page every step of the way.”
When mother nature decided the crew could do with a downpour every once in awhile, the VFX artists answered with sky replacements for all of the backgrounds to composite into the slightly sunny foreground pieces.
The team added a number of CG elements to the action too, including a full shot of Chef Felix’s next idea: a cruise-bound food truck (with a beautifully lit CG city in the background, no less).
