The Mill's Emerging Technology team worked with director Patricio Lima and Nowness to create 'Just Dance: A Future Ballet', an interactive artistic film.
The concept was to imagine how the material nature of the body could be translated to the internet. Choreographer Cecilia Bengolea adapted the dance for the song “Geneva” by Kindness. 3D scanners were used to capture the performance, which was then rendered into three different layers of raw data, each showing the beautiful dancer in a different way.
The Mill wrote custom code for the Nowness website that allows users to switch between the three video layers in real time, by pressing the 1, 2 or 3 buttons. When visiting the Nowness website here, viewers can press the 1, 2 or 3 buttons to switch between the three layers in real time.
By watching the dance sequence while switching between layers, a completely unique experience is created upon each viewing.
