Woven throughout the sequence is a symbolic serpent, a lithe sex object with sinister intent, hinting at the primal, animalistic urges of the show's sophisticated characters. Other images follow, portraying luxury and extravagance fed by violence and rage.
Cameron explains, "I loved the idea of this indestructible material leading to the erosion of morals, and the contrast between the diamond’s clarity and each character's skewed and distorted perception. A heavy colour treatment blankets us in the sodium vapor light of LA nights, punctuating the thematic visual dualities of our upscale rock. The condensed, elegant letters of credits drifting across canyons of kerning is a cue that things fall apart."
The sequence is cut to the raw and aggressive track ‘Devil’s Got A Hold’ by Travis Barker, signaling the impending violence threatening from below a veneer of seduction and exclusivity.
