The Mill collaborated with Venables, Bell & Partners and Director Henry Hobson of Furlined to create ‘Merchant’ for PlayStation. The film highlights the unlimited adventures found only at the PlayStation Store, brought to you by a mysterious shopkeeper and his trove of artifacts.
The Mill’s VFX team created CG assets throughout the spot that add to the spectacle. The 3D and 2D artists seamlessly integrated animated, hovering objects to bring the piece into a fantastical realm. Adam Scott, Head of Colour in the Los Angeles studio, applied cool, dark tones to emphasize the intrigue and mystery.
Lead 3D Artist Tom Graham explains, “While there was a great deal of practical PlayStation props already on set, we added CG features such as a glowing orb, flaming knife, and various weapons and elements from the games. The extra detail and shading provided a little more realism while maintaining the aesthetics.”
On the overall experience, Tom adds, “I really like working with game companies to see their process on how they build and develop concepts for an entire world from scratch. It was great to have the opportunity to work on this campaign.”
