As part of DFS’ partnership with Team GB, the brand celebrates the hard work that goes into getting to the top of your game in their latest spot.
The film heroes their three Team GB ambassadors, Laura Trott, Max Whitlock and Adam Peaty as well as some of DFS’ own craftspeople. Throughout the 30 second spot, we cut between the three athletes going through their rigorous training regimes and the DFS craftsmen and women who are hard at work in their own workshop.
Beautifully shot, there is a synergy beytween the athletes’ and craftspeoples’ actions; both appear heroic and focussed to mimic the dedication to their crafts. The ad closes with a young supporter at home, cheering on Team GB from the 'Britannia, Great British Sofa’.
2D Lead Artist Richard Payne comments; “The spot required many separate shoots due to the athlete's busy schedules, and at times the team had only an hour or so to set up and shoot. The key was to create continuity and maintain the atmospheric lighting in all the shots so that The Mill’s Colourist James Bamford could then grade them seamlessly. Director Pedro beautifully captured the parity of both the athletes and DFS craftsmen in training, highlighting the determination and dedication to their sport and work.”
Mill Colourist James Bamford says; "This is a really great spot from Pedro and it was a pleasure to work on. From the very beginning, we wanted this to stand apart from your regular DFS commercials, using a stronger stylistic approach. From the opening of the spot, you’re taken into a sporty, contrasty grade which is indicative of typical sports ads. There is also a blueish tone throughout which is enhanced by the warmer skin tones within the piece."
