The Mill worked with Director Nadav Kander out of Partizan and AMV to create a powerful manifesto film for the 2015 MOBO Awards.
For the 20th anniversary of the MOBO Awards the British music institution, which champions diversity in the creative industries, announced a programme of cultural and educational events under the banner of ‘Rise With Us.’ The season included films, panel sessions and the launch of MOBO Fellowships, which aim to create opportunities for emerging talent within the industry.
Using a group of artists, including electronic musician Blue Daisy to narrate the manifesto the film makes an inspiring entry point to a campaign that describes itself as, “A rallying cry, a call to action to the nation, from all those who are already a part of the MOBO movement to celebrate and elevate diverse talent across the creative industries.”
Each of the speakers is dramatically bathed in vivid hues of orange, green, blue and purple, which The Mill enhanced in the grade. Colourist Matt Osborne says, “After discussing with Nadav we decided we wanted to embrace the bold colours that were used in camera. We pushed them as far as possible while retaining a good contrast level so we could see all of the speakers' facial expressions. Using tracked windows to bring up the eyes completed the grade, really drawing the viewer into the frame. Throughout the grade we were conscious of always keeping in mind a strong photographic style for which Nadav is so famous.”
