In this latest spot, 100% CG, photo-real orangutan Maya returns to experience the wonders of energy in all their manifestations; discovering a funfair and encountering a wonderland of light, sound and movement.
Building on their extensive CG assets from the campaign’s previous ads, The Mill’s VFX team worked to re-craft Maya entirely in CG, developing her muscle movements and character.
Lead 3D Artist Sam Driscoll explains, “Part of the challenge this year was crafting an orangutan that could interact a lot more intimately with her environment and the energy around her. This meant a new approach for the team; we created a system that enabled us to develop realistic hair movements on the windy ride. The CG lighting team was also able to get creative with different colours and pulses of light at opportune moments.
We carefully animated her facial expressions so that she still looked like the previous Maya we know and love, but still maintained a feeling of realism. The way she smiles, looks at objects around her and the way she shows curiosity are some of the characteristics that give shape to her personality.”
Ben Priest, Chief Creative Officer of adam&eveDDB comments, “This is the next chapter in our brand journey with SSE. Looking at our world through Maya’s eyes is a great way of reminding ourselves of the wonder of energy, in all its guises.”
