We've just finished working with the team from Blinkink and their new director, Joseph Mann, on this charming animated short film, 'This is T.I.E' for The International Exchange (T.I.E).

Once Joseph and his team of model makers finished fashioning the hand-crafted intricate sets and characters from paper, cardboard and wood, we then took the 3D models and spent four weeks setting up the models to the same lighting as the live action background. Working closely alongside Joseph, we tried to make sure all the characters had realistic textures and lighting setups so they fitted with the stop frame animation style needed.
Tobey Lindback and our 2D team then took the renders and composited them into the live action back plates giving the effect that all elements were shot in-camera as a stop frame animation. Once all of the 3D and compositing work was done, our Colourist James Bamford stepped in and delicately adjusted the colours of each shot to help balance and finalise the look.
