When Dare brought us the latest Tetley job to work on we naturally jumped at the chance to get our hands on the loveable little Tea Folk once again, and made ourselves a cuppa to celebrate!
In 'Just the Way You Are' Dare and Director Jeff Starks were eager to capture the much loved character 'Sydney' and his everyday routine of making a beloved cup of tea; from stepping through the front door to relaxing at the kitchen table with a newspaper and his favourite brew.

The Mill's Producer Tracey Khan explains, "With Jeff's beautifully shot film, character animator Richard Ollive was able to capture Sydney's real love of tea and bring it to life in an incredibly charming way. Toon Boom artists Robert Granger, Emily Greeley and Luke Tribe then coloured, textured and beautifully shaded each frame while Pete Rypstra and Adam Lambert carefully composited Sydney into Jeff's world."
Our Lead 2D Artist and Shoot Supervisor Pete explained, "In Flame, where we could, we used the takes with reference performances from our actors - even Jeff Stark! By cleaning them off the backplates we could then replace them with the animations and use the real shadow reflections and dust. Hats off to Seamus and Jeff on the grade, the warmth of the moment really shines through."
